Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made their initial bid for their primary striker target, while still being involved in talks for another player in the background.
The priority forward for Chiefs is believed to be Fiston Mayele from Yanga SC, with both clubs engaged in dialogue regarding the potential transfer.
Nearly a year ago, reports emerged that Chiefs had already secured the signing of Mayele.
However, both Amakhosi and Yanga officials denied these claims, although recent reports suggested that the move was close to happening.
Despite the previous unsuccessful attempt, Mayele has remained undeterred and maintained an impressive goal-scoring record for Yanga this season.
The 28-year-old striker has netted 31 goals in all competitions and even won the CAF Goal of the Week award, which undoubtedly captured Chiefs’ attention once again.
Yanga is now reportedly open to cashing in on Mayele, with Chiefs among several teams that would need to meet the Tanzanian champions’ asking price for the Congolese marksman.
However, negotiations seem to be hitting a roadblock as Yanga is standing firm on their valuation.
Chiefs are attempting to negotiate a lower price, but Yanga is unwilling to budge, demanding R10 million for Mayele’s transfer.
Chiefs have been offering around R6 million in their negotiations, leading to a prolonged deal.
The source mentioned that Mayele is highly valued by Yanga, and Chiefs are eager to secure the player, but the club’s asking price has been a significant obstacle in finalizing the deal.
The outcome of the negotiations remains uncertain, as few South African clubs can afford the requested transfer fee.
Chiefs will need to increase their offer if they want to secure the services of Mayele for the upcoming season.
