Kaizer Chiefs have kicked off the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season in style, winning both of their opening games even without head coach Nasreddine Nabi at the helm.
Nabi had to return to Tunisia unexpectedly due to a family emergency after his wife suffered injuries in a home accident.
Assistant Coach Steps Up
In Nabi’s absence, assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has taken charge of daily training and match preparations.
Despite the sudden disruption, Chiefs have looked sharp, disciplined, and organised on the pitch, securing victories against Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City, scoring three goals without conceding.
Nabi Still Heavily Involved
Ben Youssef emphasised that Nabi remains actively engaged with the team from abroad.
“We are in contact every day. We prepare every session and every game together.
Coach Nabi may not be physically here, but his presence is still felt in everything we do,” he said.
The technical staff’s strong collaboration has helped maintain tactical consistency, ensuring the team continues to perform at a high level.
Nabi Expected Back Soon
Reports suggest that Nabi is preparing for the long journey back to South Africa and is expected to rejoin the squad before the end of the week.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have taken full advantage of their early momentum and currently sit atop the league standings on goal difference, level on six points with Durban City, Marumo Gallants, and Sekhukhune United.
Chiefs Eye Third Win Against Richards Bay

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30, and fans can secure tickets online via ticketmaster.co.za or kaizerchiefs.com, as well as at Shoprite, USave, and Checkers outlets for R60.
