While most South African clubs are keeping things local, Kaizer Chiefs have taken their preparations international.
The team has landed in the Netherlands, where new head coach Nasreddine Nabi is getting his first proper look at the squad he’ll lead into what’s expected to be a busy and high-stakes season.
And judging by the new arrivals, it’s clear Chiefs aren’t playing around.
A Mix of the Old and the New
The pre-season camp has a fresh energy, thanks to a combination of seasoned players and brand-new signings.
Six new faces have officially joined the Amakhosi squad, and fans are already buzzing about the potential each one brings to the pitch.
The first wave of signings saw the arrival of Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, and Ethan Chislett.
All three players bring overseas experience to Naturena, which could add some much-needed edge in the coming season.
Chislett, in particular, reportedly had offers from the UK’s Wigan Athletic and Scotland’s Motherwell before choosing to come home.
Former Pirates Stars Now in Gold and Black
As if the first three signings weren’t exciting enough, Chiefs turned up the heat by unveiling a trio of former Orlando Pirates players.
Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane were the first two defenders to be revealed—transfers that had been rumoured for months and came as no real surprise.
Then came Siphesihle Ndlovu, another ex-Buccaneer, adding even more depth and rivalry-fueled intrigue to the squad.
Still Watching the Ighodaro Situation
But there’s one more name still hovering around the Chiefs’ transfer radar: Etiosa Ighodaro.
The Nigerian striker, who was previously with Mamelodi Sundowns, has been strongly linked with the club, yet his deal remains unofficial.
Why the delay? It all comes down to paperwork and the foreign player quota.
The Hold-Up Explained
According to reports from Soccer-Laduma, the Chiefs are eager to sign Ighodaro—but there’s a catch.
They’re currently maxed out on foreign players, with five already on the books.
Before they can finalize Ighodaro’s contract, he needs to secure his Permanent Residency Permit (PRP).
A source explained:
“The club is still interested in signing Ighodaro, but they have to look at the foreign quota first.
He has qualified for permanent residency, so once his PRP is sorted, the move can happen.”
So, for now, it’s a waiting game—but the club and fans alike remain hopeful.
Chiefs Fans, What’s the Verdict?
With six new signings in the bag and potentially more to come, Kaizer Chiefs are clearly aiming to bounce back with purpose this season.
Whether Ighodaro joins or not, the squad already looks dramatically different from last season.
