It’s transfer season, and Kaizer Chiefs fans are eagerly watching the club’s moves to strengthen their squad.

One name that’s been buzzing around Naturena is Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro—a forward who’s quietly become one of the most consistent performers in the Betway Premiership over the last few years.

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has now confirmed the club’s interest in the player, and it’s no surprise why.

Ighodaro has been delivering on the pitch season after season. But as it turns out, landing him might not be so straightforward.

A Complicated Chase for a Rising Star

Even though Amakhosi are keen on signing Ighodaro on a permanent deal, there’s a big hurdle in the way: Mamelodi Sundowns still hold his contract.

The 24-year-old spent the last three seasons on loan, rotating through Chippa United, SuperSport United, and most recently, AmaZulu.

And despite being on the move, he kept finding the net—scoring 25 goals in 88 league appearances.

Initially, Kaizer Chiefs believed he was available as a free agent.

However, they soon discovered that Sundowns had quietly included a one-year extension clause in his deal, meaning he’s still officially theirs.

Kaizer Chiefs Still Chasing Cape Town Spurs Duo

And that’s not the only transfer headache Amakhosi are dealing with.

The club is also in the middle of trying to finalize deals for Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman—two young talents from Cape Town Spurs.

The Chiefs were under the impression that both players were free agents, especially after Cape Town Spurs were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, South Africa’s third tier.

According to PSL rules, contracts become void when a team drops to this level.

But Cape Town Spurs have pushed back, insisting that both players are still under valid contracts—and that’s caused a legal deadlock, delaying Chiefs from officially announcing the signings.

Junior Khanye Shares His Take on the Potential Signings

Former player and football analyst Junior Khanye has weighed in on the situation.

He didn’t hold back when assessing the two prospects.

He believes Luke Baartman has what it takes to shine at Chiefs, describing him as a player with genuine potential.

But when it comes to Asanele Velebayi, Khanye sounded less enthusiastic. “I’m not as convinced by Velebayi,” he admitted.

What Do You Think—Who Should Chiefs Sign Next?

As fans await official confirmations and legal resolutions, the debate continues: Who should Kaizer Chiefs really be going after in this transfer window? Should they push harder for Ighodaro or focus on Baartman and Velebayi?
