In a fiery statement, Megyn Kelly has taken aim at Anna Wintour for refusing to feature Melania Trump on the cover of Vogue magazine, an issue that has sparked ongoing debate.
The 54-year-old journalist expressed her frustration with the fashion world’s rejection of the former First Lady while also complimenting Melania’s “elegant” appearance during her husband’s inauguration.
A Stylish First Lady, Yet Overlooked by Vogue
“Look at Melania Trump—elegant, stylish, and the most beautiful First Lady ever,” Megyn Kelly wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
She questioned why Melania hasn’t received the same cover treatment as other political figures like Jill Biden and Michelle Obama, stating, “Vogue won’t put her on the cover because Anna Wintour cannot bear to celebrate a Republican like this.”
Megyn went on to call Melania “literally perfect,” reiterating her admiration for the First Lady’s style and grace.
The Vogue Snub: A Long-Standing Issue
Melania’s absence from the pages of Vogue has been a point of contention since her husband’s presidency in 2016.
Traditionally, First Ladies are a prominent fixture in women’s fashion magazines.
Michelle Obama made multiple appearances on the cover, while Jill Biden was featured twice, including in a special spread with her daughter.
Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton have also graced the cover.
However, Melania’s only Vogue appearance was in 2005, long before Donald Trump’s political rise.
Melania’s Response: Acknowledging the Bias
In a 2022 interview, Melania called out Vogue’s “bias,” expressing disappointment that she had never been featured despite her fashion sense.
She explained, “They’re biased, and it’s obvious to everyone. But I have much more important things to focus on in the White House than being on the cover of Vogue.”
A Fashion Icon Despite the Snub
While Vogue and many American designers may have distanced themselves from Melania, she has continued to earn praise for her impeccable style.
For her husband’s inauguration, Melania wore a navy silk wool coat and skirt by American designer Adam Lippes, paired with a matching hat from milliner Eric Javits.
Lippes himself expressed pride in dressing the First Lady, noting that her outfit was crafted by some of the country’s finest artisans.
Fashion Industry Divided on Melania’s Style Choices
Despite her elegant fashion choices, Melania has faced resistance from many American designers who disagree with her husband’s politics.
As a result, she has often turned to European designers for her wardrobe.
Her stylist, Herve Pierre, acknowledged the industry’s unwelcoming stance, stating, “The fashion industry is not very welcoming of Trump.
That’s no secret. Some are open-minded, but many are not.”
Moving Forward
While Melania’s fashion journey has been marked by highs and lows, one thing is clear: her style has remained consistent, regardless of the industry’s treatment.
It remains to be seen how the future will unfold for Melania and her relationship with the world of fashion.
