Wolves striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen looks set to sit out this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Everton as speculation about a big-money move to Newcastle United intensifies. The Norwegian forward has reportedly made his intentions clear, leaving the door open for a transfer to St James’ Park.
Newcastle’s Pursuit Hits Roadblocks
Newcastle have already had two offers turned down by Wolves this week, the latest being a £55million bid submitted on Tuesday evening.
Despite the setbacks, the Magpies have not abandoned their pursuit, especially with Alexander Isak’s record-breaking transfer to Liverpool looking increasingly likely.
The club wants to secure two new strikers before Monday’s transfer deadline.
At the same time, Newcastle are also making headway on a £65million deal for Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, showing their determination to strengthen their attack.
Wolves Stand Firm but Strand-Larsen Is Eager to Move
While Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has made it clear that Strand-Larsen is not for sale and any approach will be rejected, the striker himself is understood to have expressed a strong desire to join Newcastle.
As a result, Daily Mail Sport reports that Strand-Larsen is very unlikely to feature in Wolves’ home game against Everton on Saturday while Newcastle prepares a possible third offer.
Wolves boss Vito Pereira said on Friday that Strand-Larsen has a “small injury problem” but remained “hopeful” he could play, though the bigger picture is dominated by transfer speculation.
Yoane Wissa Could Also Be on the Move
Newcastle are also keeping an eye on Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, but progress has been slow in recent days.
A potential £45million move by Brentford for Dortmund’s Max Beier could open the door for Wissa to join Newcastle, adding another attacking option for Eddie Howe before the transfer window closes.
As it stands, both Strand-Larsen and Wissa remain live targets for the Magpies, keeping fans on tenterhooks as the weekend approaches.
