Jordan Pickford Prepares to Play His Final Ever Match at Goodison Park While His Children Join Him as Mascots in Everton’s Emotional Farewell Game

This Sunday lunchtime, Everton will take to the pitch for the very last time at their iconic Goodison Park stadium.

It’s a moment charged with emotion for the club, the players, and especially for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

To mark this special occasion, Pickford will share the moment with two of his children, who will walk out as mascots alongside him.

It’s clear this isn’t just another match day — it’s a memory in the making.

Pickford’s Familiar Rituals Meet a Unique Occasion

Even though this will be his 160th and final game at Goodison, Pickford plans to stick to his usual pre-game routine, including waving to the same fan in the Gwladys Street End during warm-ups.

But beneath the calm exterior, there’s an unmistakable fire.

“We’ll be playing for the memory of winning the last home game at Goodison,” Pickford says. “So there will probably be added pressure.”

Reliving Dramatic Moments from Goodison’s Past

For Pickford, Goodison isn’t just a stadium — it’s been a battlefield of some of his career’s most unforgettable moments.

Two escapes from relegation stand out in his mind. “The Palace game in 2022 was probably the highlight,” he recalls.

“We had to win to stay up because the final game was against Arsenal away.

Coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2, with Dele Alli coming on and turning things around, was incredible.”

He remembers the roar of the crowd vividly. “Arsene Wenger once said Goodison can be tough for visiting teams because of the noise.

That night, after our first goal, the fans just lifted us. After the 3-2 winner, it was a total blur!”

Compared to that nail-biter, Pickford says the following year’s escape against Bournemouth felt almost relaxed.

“It was like, we did it before, so why not again? We controlled the game, and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the winner.”

Loyalty and Passion Through the Years

Pickford has been a stalwart at Everton since joining in 2017, choosing loyalty even as many of his England teammates enjoy Champions League nights and win trophies.

Everton fans have a chant about him being “dynamite,” and his commitment was clear just last weekend at Fulham, where he played through a painful shoulder injury.

“It was killing me. I even thought my golf season might be over!” he jokes.

A Bittersweet Farewell to a Beloved Home

Sunday’s midday kickoff against Southampton promises to be an emotional one.

Former Everton legends have been invited back to honor the club’s history, and fans will line the streets to greet the team’s coach.

After three decades without silverware, Everton’s eyes are on the future as they prepare to move to their new 53,000-capacity home at Bramley-Moore Dock.

“It’s definitely going to be sad leaving Goodison,” Pickford admits, “but we’re moving to one of the best stadiums I’ve ever seen.”

Creating Lasting Memories with Family

For Pickford, the day won’t just be about football — it’s also a special family moment.

Walking out with his children as mascots is a memory he knows he’ll cherish forever.

“It’s going to be a good memory. I’m sure I’ll be looking back on it in 30 years’ time when I’m a grandad!”
