Joleon Lescott is trading the roar of the stadium for the pulse of the DJ booth this weekend, as he gears up to perform a house music set at Reading Festival.
The former Premier League star is set to show fans a different side of his talent—this time, behind the decks rather than in the defensive line.
A Career Built on Glory
Lescott’s football resume is nothing short of impressive.
The former England international lifted the Premier League trophy twice with Manchester City and earned 26 caps for his country.
Across his career, he racked up 614 appearances, representing top clubs like Everton, Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa, Sunderland, and even a stint with AEK Athens.
Along the way, he also picked up the FA Cup and Football League Cup, cementing his legacy in English football.
Hanging Up the Boots, Picking Up the Headphones
After retiring in 2017 at the age of 34 following Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League, Lescott shifted focus to coaching.
He worked with England’s under-21 team under Lee Carsley and followed him briefly to the senior side.
While coaching demanded much of his time, the pull of music has remained strong.
From Coaching to DJing Dreams
Last year, Lescott opened up about his ambition to become a full-time DJ.
“It’s a real ambition,” he told The Rest Is Football.
“I’ve had some gigs in the summer, but when the call came to be part of the England set-up,
I had to park it for a while. I still train—it’s the closest thing I have to playing, in terms of the feeling it gives me.”
He has developed a taste for house and deep house music, noting that while he grew up on garage, the younger generation gravitates toward other sounds.
This weekend, he’ll finally bring those beats to a live audience on the Jagermeister Stage at 6 pm, hoping to captivate the crowd—or at least avoid a “red card” moment on stage.
Life Beyond the Field
Even as he dives into music, Lescott hasn’t left football behind entirely.
He continues to work as a pundit across Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup coverage.
Meanwhile, his DJ journey is gaining momentum, with glimpses of him spinning at events and sharing fan snaps on Instagram.
What’s Next for Lescott?
From Premier League triumphs to under-21 coaching successes and now DJing, Lescott is embracing a bold second act.
Whether he’ll take the DJ world by storm or simply enjoy the music alongside fans, one thing is certain: the former footballer is ready to explore new rhythms off the pitch.
