Joint Operation by Police Army DSS and Vigilante Groups Leads to Arrest of Three Suspects and Recovery of Firearms and Stolen Items in Jigawa State Nigeria

The fight against crime in Jigawa State has taken a significant step forward, with security forces making several high-profile arrests following a coordinated operation.

This latest crackdown reflects the ongoing efforts of the state’s security agencies to tackle armed robbery, financial fraud, and other criminal activities head-on.

Joint Operation Nets Three Suspects

On January 10, 2026, a combined security operation involving the Police, Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups targeted suspected criminals in Sundumina District of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of three individuals: Adamu Abubakar, 30; Sale Yakubu, 30; and Mamman Saidu, 17. All three are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Evidence and Items Recovered

During the raid, law enforcement recovered several items linked to criminal activities, including:

  • A locally made gun
  • Two red Boxer motorcycles
  • Fake Somali shillings
  • Mobile phones and a power bank
  • A knife and a machete
  • ₦289,620 suspected to be proceeds of crime

SP Shi’isu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State, explained that the suspects allegedly lured victims under the pretext of exchanging foreign currency before robbing them of their valuables.

A Series of Arrests Earlier in January

This recent operation is part of a wider clampdown on crime across the state.

On January 2, seven suspects were arrested, and stolen items such as motorcycles, window glasses, air conditioners, and illicit drugs were recovered.

A day prior, on January 1, 17 other suspects—including armed robbers, drug dealers, and vandals—were apprehended during coordinated operations, with firearms, narcotics, and stolen items seized.

Commitment to Peace and Public Cooperation

Commissioner of Police CP Dahiru Muhammad praised the officers involved in the joint operation and reaffirmed the commitment of all security agencies in Jigawa to ensuring peace and safety.

He urged residents to stay vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital to dismantling criminal networks.
