At a Memorial Day event in Wilmington, Delaware, Joe Biden showed some humor when a reporter asked about his mental sharpness.
The former president, sounding a bit hoarse, quipped, “You can see that I was mentally incompetent and I can’t walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” jokingly responding to a female reporter.
It was a moment of levity during a serious day honoring veterans.
Defending His Presidency and Addressing Regrets
Biden didn’t shy away from addressing critics within his own party who said he shouldn’t have run for re-election.
“Why didn’t they run against me then? I could have beaten them,” he said confidently.
When pressed about any regrets, Biden was clear: “No, I don’t have any regrets.”
These comments were his first public remarks since announcing his cancer diagnosis.
Optimistic About Treatment and Recovery
Speaking at Veterans Park, Biden shared updates on his health and treatment.
He explained that he is taking pills as part of his therapy and expressed optimism about beating the illness.
“The expectation is we’re going to be able to beat this,” he said, adding that the cancer hasn’t spread to any organs and that his bones remain strong. “I feel good,” he assured.
Remembering Beau Biden on 10th Anniversary of His Passing
Earlier that day, Joe and Jill Biden attended mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, the Catholic church where their late son Beau Biden is buried.
The couple marks the anniversary of Beau’s death every year, showing how deeply they continue to feel his loss.
Beau passed away from glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer, back in 2015.
Controversy Surrounds Alleged Health Coverup During Biden’s Presidency
Recently, scrutiny has returned to Joe Biden’s health while he was in office.
This renewed attention stems partly from a new book, Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which alleges that Biden’s team actively worked to hide his health issues from the public.
The book also reveals how the Biden family kept Beau Biden’s cancer diagnosis largely secret, even misleading the media about his condition.
Details on Beau Biden’s Illness and Family Secrecy
Beau was diagnosed in 2013 after collapsing on a family vacation.
Despite undergoing surgery and treatment, the family debated how much to disclose to the public, ultimately deciding to say very little.
Beau even used a fake name, George Lincoln, when checking into hospitals to keep his identity private.
Meanwhile, then-Vice President Biden often traveled to support his son but reportedly instructed aides to mislead the press about his whereabouts.
Calls for Testimony and Further Investigation
The controversy isn’t just in books. House Oversight Chairman James Comer has requested interviews with four former Biden aides and the former White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, regarding Joe Biden’s health.
On top of that, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has publicly urged Jill Biden to testify, accusing her of being complicit in the coverup.
Jill Biden Under Pressure to Address Allegations
Leavitt criticized the former first lady for downplaying concerns about Joe Biden’s health, saying, “She was saying everything is fine.
She’s still lying to the American people.” Leavitt insisted that Jill Biden “needs to answer for it” and suggested that the American public deserves the truth about what she knew and when.
