Jennifer Slay Says Goodbye to Philly: Darius Slay’s Future Uncertain

On March 15, 2023, it was reported that the Philadelphia Eagles might lose their all-time number 1 cornerback, Darius Slay.

Jennifer Slay, Darius’ wife, bid farewell to Philly through a heartfelt Instagram post, as their family was flying out of Philly.

The couple has been together since 2018, and Jennifer has supported Darius throughout his NFL career that began with the Lions in 2013.

Darius Slay was traded to the Eagles in 2020 and was a part of the Super Bowl 2023 roster team.

Jennifer Slay celebrated the Eagles’ NFC Championship win in January before their clash with the Chiefs in Arizona.

In her Instagram post, she wrote, “SUPERBOWL BOUND!!! My baby deserves it all!!!,” to which Darius replied, “Yes ma’am … it’s go time.”

Despite taking an early lead over the Chiefs in Super Bowl 2023, the Eagles lost with a 38-35 final score.

Darius Slay, a five-time Pro Bowler, had recently been granted permission to attempt a trade while negotiating a potential extension with the Eagles.

Reports of an imminent release came, but Slay was never officially freed, and things changed in a big way.

He also tweeted about the situation and wrote, “Nothing but love Philly!! Let’s see where we heading next..”

On March 14, 2023, less than 24 hours after the official start of free agency, the Dallas Cowboys made their first big-name acquisition in multiple years by trading for veteran player Stephen Gilmore.

Although the trade for the five-time Pro Bowler came after a resurgent season in Indianapolis, the reports came with a bonus.

Word had filtered out that the Dallas Cowboys turned down a call on Eagle’s CB Darius Slay.

Slay is due to earn 17.5 million dollars this season, while Gilmore comes in at less than 10 million dollars, with 2 million dollars being in availability bonuses.

Dallas Twitter, starved of any excitement for much of the last 48 hours, has been enjoying both parts of the news.

The Cowboys reporter, Michael Gehlken, tweeted that Cowboys players respected Gilmore, with LB/DE Micah Parsons and CB Trevon Diggs wanting to swap jerseys with him after a December 4 game last season.

The National Insider for NFL Network, Ian Rapoport, tweeted that Gilmore had quietly undergone a meniscus repair last offseason, fixing his knee for good after years of pain.
