Jena Malone reveals that she was sexually assaulted on the set of hunger games

Jena Malone, the 38-year-old actress who played tribute Johanna Mason in “The Hunger Games” series, revealed in an Instagram post that she was sexually assaulted while filming “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” in 2015. Along with a photo of herself in a wheat field after wrapping up the Francis Lawrence-directed film, Malone gave her followers a trigger warning before opening up about her experience.

Malone described how filming in Paris was difficult for her, as she was going through a bad breakup and had been sexually assaulted by someone she worked with. She worked hard to heal and learn through restorative justice, and to make peace with the person who violated her and with herself. She also mentioned how difficult it is for her to talk about her role in “The Hunger Games” and her character without feeling the sharpness of that moment in time.

Malone added that she is now ready to move through it and reclaim the joy and accomplishment she felt. She extended her support to survivors out there and offered a safe space to anyone who needs to talk, vent, or open uncommunicated spaces within themselves. Her comments section was filled with supportive messages from her fans.

Since her breakout role in the 1996 film “Bastard Out of Carolina,” Malone has acted in a slew of films and TV shows, including “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and both parts of “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and more. Last summer, Malone also came out as pansexual.
