Jay Cutler Begins Serving Jail Sentence in Tennessee After Pleading Guilty to DUI Charges

Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback once married to reality star Kristin Cavallari, is now serving a short jail sentence in Tennessee following a DUI conviction.

The 42-year-old athlete was booked into Williamson County Jail on Monday morning to serve four days behind bars after pleading guilty last month.

The Incident That Led to the DUI Charge

The misdemeanor DUI charge stems from an October 2024 incident in Franklin, Tennessee, where Cutler allegedly rear-ended another vehicle.

Police reported that Cutler had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol at the scene.

Authorities also said he refused a field sobriety test and had two firearms in his car.

Shockingly, according to the arrest affidavit, Cutler even offered the other driver $2,000 to avoid contacting law enforcement and let him drive away.

Plea Deal and Penalties

In August, Cutler struck a deal with authorities, pleading guilty to driving under the influence while charges related to firearms possession were dropped. Along with his four-day jail sentence, he was fined $350.

Following his release, he will serve one year of unsupervised probation and must complete a DUI safety course.

Life After Divorce and Public Feuds

Cutler and Cavallari divorced in April 2020 after seven years of marriage and three children together: Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9.

Since their split, the pair have engaged in a series of public disagreements, trading barbed comments through media and podcasts.

Just last month, Cutler responded sharply to Cavallari’s claim that she “never got a penny” from their divorce.

Appearing on the Take It Outside podcast, he called her statement “reckless” and “borderline slander,” adding, “It’s insanity and it’s completely false, completely untrue.

I hate that I even have to address it, honestly.”

Cutler confirmed he earned around $128 million over his 12-year NFL career but insisted that no Tennessee judge would have allowed him to keep all of it. “I’ve got a divorce decree.

I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge—it’s, like, 67 pages and it says the number breakdown,” he added.

NFL Career Highlights

Cutler’s football journey began in 2006 when he was drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos.

After three seasons, he was traded to the Chicago Bears, where he made his name as one of the team’s leading quarterbacks.

Over his career with the Bears, Cutler amassed 23,443 passing yards and 154 touchdowns, still holding the team’s passing record.

Though he never reached a Super Bowl, he led the Bears to the NFC Championship Game in his lone playoff appearance.

He concluded his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2017, a year after leaving Chicago.

Moving Forward After Jail

Once Cutler completes his jail term, he will begin his year of unsupervised probation and attend the mandated DUI safety class.

While legal consequences are short-term, public attention to his personal life and past marriage continues to follow him.
