Travis Kelce’s Playoff Game Day: Family, Fans, and Freezing Temps
On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs star, Travis Kelce, will have more than just his girlfriend cheering him on during the team’s big playoff game against the Houston Texans.
His brother, Jason Kelce, also an NFL standout and ESPN analyst, made his way to Arrowhead Stadium to join in the excitement.
The weather? Not so friendly.
Temperatures were dangerously close to 0°F with a brutal wind chill, making the cold hard to ignore for anyone braving the outdoors.
While Jason Kelce prepped for the game, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, broadcasting from the warmth of an indoor studio, humorously checked in with the team.
“Are y’all okay? How are you holding up in that COLD?” he joked, adding that he was praying for them… from the comfort of a warmer place, of course.
Jason Kelce’s Arrival at Arrowhead
Jason made a calm entrance into Arrowhead, dressed in a red-and-black lumberjack coat and a matching winter hat, sipping on a hot cup of coffee.
Despite the frigid temperatures, he didn’t seem fazed.
He was just one of many big names arriving for the much-anticipated matchup.
Taylor Swift, who was also in attendance, had her own security detail and arrived shortly after.
And, of course, Travis Kelce followed, ready for the action.
It’s safe to say the Kelce family made quite the entrance, but they weren’t the earliest to arrive.
Chiefs Fans: No Snow, No Problem
For many Chiefs fans, arriving early is all part of the playoff experience.
Some dedicated supporters didn’t waste any time getting to Arrowhead.
In fact, fans began tailgating as early as Friday night, eagerly anticipating the 4:30 pm EST kickoff.
As one Chiefs fan told KCTV’s Mark Poulose, they were already preparing their grills, setting the stage for hours of pre-game festivities.
The tailgating scene was only getting bigger as the morning progressed.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington shared a video of a long line of Chiefs fans bundled up and standing outside the gates of Arrowhead 8.5 hours before the game.
“The obligatory video of Chiefs fans lined up outside the gates of Arrowhead 8.5 hours before the game to tailgate in 18-degree weather,” Darlington captioned the post, capturing the true spirit of Chiefs Kingdom.
A Tradition Like No Other
This early-arrival tradition has become a hallmark of Kansas City’s playoff culture.
With the Chiefs’ dominance in recent years, fans have made each home game feel like a personal holiday.
“I’m so KC, I woke up EARLY knowing that #ChiefsKingdom was already waiting outside the Arrowhead gates,” one fan posted on X. #tradition, indeed.
Even the bone-chilling weather didn’t stop these devoted fans from getting together for a full day of tailgating.
With the forecast calling for gusty winds of 30-35mph and temperatures around 19°F, it was clear that nothing, not even the cold, could dampen their spirits.
As the hours ticked down to the 3:30 pm local time kickoff, the excitement was palpable – Arrowhead was ready, and so were the fans.
