While most NFL superstars indulge in lavish mansions and extravagant lifestyles, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts takes a different route.
Despite securing a massive five-year, $255 million contract—with a guaranteed $180 million—he chooses to live in a humble $2,000-a-month apartment in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, during the season.
Why Hurts Sticks to a Modest Home
Hurts’ choice isn’t about making headlines—it’s about practicality.
When he first entered the NFL in 2020 as a second-round draft pick, his salary was significantly lower than it is today.
With a base salary of just $1 million back then, he opted for a simple living arrangement rather than splurging on an expensive home.
“I didn’t buy a house or anything like that when I got drafted because it was just me,” Hurts shared in a 2021 interview.
“I didn’t need this big place just for myself.”
His decision also stems from how he spends his offseasons—back home in Houston with his mother.
Since he’s not around Philadelphia year-round, investing in a large residence there never seemed necessary.
A Growing Real Estate Portfolio
While Hurts may live modestly during the season, he hasn’t shied away from making smart investments.
Reports indicate he owns a $6 million mansion in Texas, where he spends most of his offseasons.
He has also purchased the neighboring property for $2.5 million and has bought homes for his parents.
Altogether, his real estate holdings are valued at an estimated $9.4 million.
A Financially Savvy Mindset
Hurts has a strong grasp of financial responsibility, emphasizing the importance of smart spending.
He has previously shared simple money-saving tips, like buying used or leased cars instead of new ones, cooking at home instead of dining at expensive restaurants, and opting for budget-friendly phone plans.
“There are a ton of ways you can save money and be smart about your money,” he explained.
His biggest expenses? Charity, his younger sister’s education, and a $215,000 home he purchased for his father.
Will Hurts Upgrade His Living Situation?
Now that Hurts is locked in with the Eagles through the 2028 season, fans wonder whether he’ll trade in his modest apartment for something bigger.
His engagement to longtime girlfriend Bry Burrows could also be a reason for a potential upgrade.
Regardless of where he chooses to live, Hurts’ financial discipline continues to impress fans.
“Smart,” one person commented online.
“He’s not spending so much keeping up a mansion and the property.”
Another added, “Why waste it?”
A Historic Sports Town
Interestingly, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, has been home to several sports legends over the years, including Muhammad Ali, Philadelphia Flyers icon Bobby Clarke, and Phillies pitcher-turned-U.S. Senator Jim Bunning.
The town also once housed the award-winning NFL Films production company.
Whether Hurts eventually settles into a bigger home in the Philadelphia area or sticks to his humble ways, his approach to wealth management sets him apart in a league where extravagance is often the norm.
