During a recent appearance on The Chris Moyles Show, Izzy Hammond, the daughter of Top Gear star Richard Hammond, found herself in a rather embarrassing moment.
The 24-year-old guest appeared on the show, but to her surprise, co-host Dominic Byrne had no idea who she was, despite her famous father and her involvement in a popular podcast with him.
A Cringe-Worthy Exchange
The awkwardness began right from the start when Dominic greeted Izzy by saying, “Hello there, guest.
Lovely to see you. Urm, what’s your name?” Izzy quickly responded, “My name is Izzy,” and Dominic proceeded with an equally awkward conversation, fumbling for details about her life.
He asked if she had an interest in “film” or “music,” to which Izzy awkwardly responded, “I enjoy watching a film.
Yeah, sure,” before dismissing both as passions of hers.
As Dominic continued to make wild guesses about her interests, Izzy politely shut down each of his suggestions, including music and gardening.
It was clear that Dominic was having a tough time placing her despite the fact that they had both worked with her father, Richard Hammond.
Izzy Finally Reveals Who She Is
After some confusion, Izzy finally revealed that she was part of a duo, referring to her podcast, Who Are We Now, which she co-hosts with her father.
This prompted Dominic to ask, “He’s gone solo with me before?” to which Izzy responded, “Yes, yes the two of you have chatted.”
It took some time, but Dominic eventually realized that Izzy was the daughter of the very same Richard Hammond he had worked with.
Once Dominic recognized who she was, he seemed relieved and awkwardly acknowledged their previous meetings, saying, “Now, I’ve met your dad. And we’ve met before.
Is your dad very good at driving cars?” The conversation finally ended with Dominic offering a quick, “It’s been a pleasure, and regards to your dad.”
Richard Hammond’s Family and Personal Struggles
Izzy and her father have been co-hosting the podcast Who Are We Now, which they started in 2024.
Recently, Izzy opened up about the emotional toll of her father’s life-threatening accidents, particularly the 2006 crash while filming Top Gear, where he was hospitalized after crashing a Vampire Dragster at over 200 miles per hour.
Izzy shared that the recovery process was incredibly difficult for their family, as Richard’s brain injuries left him “barely a human” for months, struggling to relearn basic functions, including being a father.
She spoke candidly about how the aftermath of the crash affected their family life, recounting how her childhood birthday celebrations were overshadowed by Richard’s hospitalization.
Looking Back at a Life of Uncertainty
Izzy recalled one of her birthdays spent in a hospital, where her family tried to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos.
“I remember having a little mini birthday party in the hospital,” she said, “as my mum was trying to keep things as normal as possible for me and my sister.”
Despite the difficult circumstances, she added that her cousins were there to offer support while their fathers stood by her dad’s bedside, hoping for his recovery.
