The Alumni Association has been polarized in recent times along two factions under Chief Mrs. Linda Onyekwelu and Sir. Ben Okoronkwo.
The resolution followed a high-powered meeting convened by Engineer Johnny Chukwu, a former Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital territory, Abuja and chaired by Chief Iwuanyanwu with high profile members in attendance.
Addressing the peace meeting, Chief Iwuanyanwu recalled the pace setting accomplishments of the group and their alma mater in various areas, and maintained that products are supposed to set the pace, the standard, and to show the light for people to find the way.
Chief Iwuanyanwu reminded them that the crisis has affected adversely the efforts of the alumni association to achieve set goals and objectives, and appealed that they must all unite as members to ensure that the crisis is resolved so that the university will match forward like a victorious soldier of light and development.
In their speeches, all the members of the association present, advocated the immediate dissolution of the factional leadership of the parties and called for fresh elections to be conducted soonest.
Chief Mrs. Onyekwelu, there and then, tendered her resignation to ensure that peace reigned in the alumni association, while Sir Ben Okoronkwo’s led faction shall terminate on December thirty-first this year.
The meeting resolved that the University of Nigeria Alumni Association shall constitute an electoral committee and also convene a national convention by the first week of December 2021 in line with the 2014 Constitution of the UNNA.
It also resolved that the constitution of the University Alumni Association be overhauled to establish a statutory role for the BOT and Distinguished Alumnus of High Achievements, ALOHAS.
The meeting directed that all pending actions at the Law Courts with respect to the crisis in the Alumni Association be withdrawn immediately by the litigants.
It appreciated the patriotic commitments of the chairman, of the reconciliation meeting, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and the chairman of the reconciliation committee, Engineer Chukwu in restoring peace in the association and further assured that the Board of Trustees, the Distinguished ALOHAS and members of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association will remain committed to the progress and development of the University.
Meanwhile great joy has pervaded the horizon of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and all branches of the alumni association worldwide over the outcome of the peace accord powered by one of the greatest ALOHAS of the institution Chief Iwuanaynwu.
