Just as Isaiah Bond was gearing up for what should have been one of the most exciting moments of his life—entering the NFL Draft—his journey has taken a serious turn.
The 21-year-old wide receiver, who recently wrapped up his college career at the University of Texas, is now dealing with a serious legal matter that could impact his professional future.
Turns Himself In on Sexual Assault Warrant
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Bond turned himself in to authorities in Frisco, Texas on Thursday morning in connection with an outstanding warrant related to a sexual assault allegation.
While the specific details surrounding the accusation haven’t been released, Bond was taken into custody and has since posted bond, allowing him to be released shortly after.
Bond Responds: “The Claims Are Patently False”
After his release, Bond issued a public statement strongly denying the allegations.
He expressed his desire to clear his name, stating:
“Regarding the accusation made against me, I would appreciate the time and opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims made, patently false.”
He went on to say that he is cooperating fully with law enforcement and emphasized the importance of not jumping to conclusions before the full facts are revealed.
“Unfortunately, claims like these prove to be harmful to all involved, absent full review.
I kindly request that all reserve judgment until the authorities provide a complete report based on truth and evidence.”
Where and When Did It Allegedly Happen?
At this point, it’s still unclear when or where the alleged incident occurred.
Bond spent his first two college seasons at Alabama before transferring to Texas ahead of last season.
That means the timeline for the alleged events could span either his time in Tuscaloosa or Austin.
Authorities have not yet confirmed that detail.
Draft Stock in Question
Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, Bond had been considered a potential second-round pick.
But now, with these allegations surfacing so close to the draft, teams may think twice before calling his name.
Depending on how the investigation unfolds, his draft stock could take a significant hit.
Injury-Plagued Season May Add to Uncertainty
To make matters more complicated, Bond’s 2024 season was already a bit shaky due to injury.
He dealt with an ankle issue that limited his performance during key games.
In the SEC Championship, he caught just one pass for 22 yards and then sat out the first round of the College Football Playoff against Clemson.
Although he returned for the Peach Bowl, he had a minimal impact in the Cotton Bowl, recording only one catch for eight yards.
Solid Season Stats Despite Setbacks
Despite those setbacks, Bond still put up a decent season overall.
He wrapped up the year with 34 receptions for 540 yards and five touchdowns.
He also chipped in with four carries for 98 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The Georgia native clearly has talent, but his off-the-field situation could now overshadow his on-field potential.
