INEC Restates Resolve To Continue With Anambra Governorship Election, To Present Voters Register To Political Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it is determined to proceed with the November sixth governorship election in Anambra State as scheduled.

The Chairman of the Commission Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this during an emergency meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security in Abuja.

According to the INEC Chairman for the Commission to underscore the determination, it will implement two more activities on the timetable for the election in the next few days.

Professor Yakubu disclosed that the voters register will be presented to political parties in Awka tomorrow, adding that the Commission will equally publish the final list of candidates for the election on the same day.

He expressed the hope that the safety of those involved in the election including the voters, election officials, Observers, Media organizations and the election materials will be guaranteed.

Professor Yakubu who expressed concern that specific electoral facilities and materials could once more become target of attack including the vehicles for the election maintained that the Commission has almost recovered fully from the attack.

He said that the destroyed building have either been completely repaired or nearing completion as the commission has fully replaced the materials destroyed.

He said that the commission secured some of the materials such as the three hundred and twenty-six electric generators and vehicles destroyed in the attack from neighbouring States.
