How to connect laptop to television

Today, anyone needs to be able to connect their laptop with their television. Watching series, listening to music, playing a movie or simply enjoying a video on the big screen is one of the wonders of the Internet age. However, everyone knows that connecting a laptop to a display can mean a significant mess of cables down the middle.

Connection by Wi-Fi

The first option is actually pretty straightforward. It goes by having a smart TV , smart TV or a television with Wi-Fi connection. Thanks to being connected to the Internet, it will allow us to see those connected from our laptop in a very simple way.

It is enough to connect the laptop and the television to the same Wi-Fi network, within the local network connection. Once this step is done, the only thing left is to access the part of the laptop’s configuration where external devices such as screens can be detected and perform the Detect action.

With this, by double clicking on the screen in which we want to see the contents, we will have the possibility to see everything we want on television. We must also bear in mind that, for this option, the quality and loading speed of the content that we want to see will depend directly on our local Internet connection.

The second option is probably the simplest of all: connect a chromecast to the TV . Chromecasts are one of the most efficient and cheap ways to transform any television (or monitor) into a true Smart TV . Simply by connecting the Chromecast to the television itself, we will have at our disposal the Wi-Fi of the local network to access any type of content.

Once plugged into the television, the Chromecast will connect to the Internet allowing us to have Wifi on the television and connect our laptop very easily. Thus, we will only have to configure the Chromecast, seeing what services are compatible with the model on our laptop, such as Netflix or YouTube.

From here, by clicking on the selected application , the available Chromecast devices will be displayed (in this case, television) and we will be able to send the content that we want to play directly from our laptop to the TV.

Hard Drive

Playing multimedia content through a hard drive is also a great way to play content from your laptop to your television without the need for cables. Services such as Plex allow us to view audiovisual content connected from a hard drive on our laptop and that can be viewed directly on television.

The only thing we will have to do in this case is to install the Plex Server service on our laptop , which will allow us to select folders and files on our computer that we want to be available through the Wi-Fi connection.

Once the files or folders are selected on the hard drive, they will go to the Plex Server and will be ready to be transferred or sent to any device. When the contents have loaded and are available, we can watch them on our television without depending on any type of cable.

Share Screen

Another fairly simple option to connect our laptop directly to the television is to use a screen sharing solution. It is true that, for this, we will need a television that can be connected to the Internet, however, if we buy a new generation screen, most of them usually come prepared to have a Wi-Fi connection.

To carry out this option, we must have both the laptop and the television on. Once this is done, on the laptop we must go to the settings and, in the devices section , select the option to Add a device . Next, a drop-down will open with different devices among which television should be found. Simply, you have to select the device and the contents that we select on the laptop will be seen automatically on the TV.

Screen Projection

The last option that we present to connect your laptop to the TV without the need for cables will depend on whether your television has Miracast technology, an option available in Windows 10 to project what we want to see on the laptop directly on the TV.

The only thing we will have to do is go to the Activity Center (normally located in the lower right corner of the toolbar), having previously connected both the laptop and the television to the same Wi-Fi network , and select the Project option .

Once here, the computer will show all the options we have available to project what we see on the laptop on the television, being able to use it as the main or secondary screen or making a duplicate, among other options. It is possible that, the first time we do this, we will have to go to the computer settings to detect the screen and then choose the projection mode.
