What began as an ordinary rush hour in Jerusalem quickly turned into a nightmare when gunmen opened fire on civilians at a bus stop.
The shocking attack claimed six lives, including that of a pregnant woman, and left many others injured as people frantically tried to escape.
The shooting happened at Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street at around 10:13 a.m. on Monday morning.
Both attackers were shot dead at the scene after unleashing terror with automatic weapons.
A Scene of Panic and Destruction
Video footage captured the frightening moment when dozens of people fled for safety as bullets sprayed across the crowded intersection.
Witnesses described chaos, with shattered glass covering the ground and victims lying unconscious on the pavement near the bus stop.
Paramedics who rushed to the scene said the sight was devastating.
“There was widespread destruction, shattered glass, and chaos.
We immediately began treating the wounded and evacuating them to hospitals,” one emergency worker recalled.
Victims and Casualties
The ambulance service confirmed the deaths of five adults: a man in his fifties, a woman also in her fifties, and three men in their thirties.
Sadly, a pregnant woman was among those killed.
Authorities reported that 11 others were injured, six of them critically from gunshot wounds.
Blood supplies were urgently transported from Ramla to meet emergency needs, while forensic teams and bomb disposal units worked to secure the area.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to Israeli police, the gunmen arrived by car and immediately opened fire on people waiting at the bus stop.
A quick response from a security officer and a nearby civilian ended the attack when they shot and killed both assailants.
Weapons, ammunition, and a knife were recovered at the scene.
The attackers were described by police only as “terrorists.”
Their motives remain unclear, and no Palestinian militant group has officially claimed responsibility.
Hamas’ Reaction
While Hamas did not take responsibility, the group praised the two men involved, describing them as “resistance fighters” and calling the shooting a “natural response to the occupation’s crimes.”
This comes amid months of escalating violence, as clashes in Gaza and the West Bank continue to fuel deadly confrontations inside Israel.
Israel Responds with Tight Security
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly arrived at the scene alongside National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
His office confirmed that he was holding urgent talks with security chiefs.
In the immediate aftermath, Israel closed all checkpoints between East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Roads leading to Ramot Junction were also sealed off as soldiers joined police in sweeping the area for any additional threats.
Trump Issues Another Warning to Hamas
Just a day before the Jerusalem shooting, U.S. President Donald Trump issued what he described as a “last warning” to Hamas, demanding that the group accept a deal to release hostages held in Gaza.
“The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well.
I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning,” Trump said in a social media post.
Shortly after, Hamas released a statement expressing readiness to discuss a ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff.
However, no official details have been made public by the White House.
Hostages Still at the Center of Negotiations
Hamas still holds dozens of hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
Out of the 251 originally abducted, 47 remain in Gaza—25 of whom are confirmed dead, according to Israeli military sources.
Families of those hostages welcomed Trump’s latest pressure campaign, calling it “a true breakthrough.”
Violence Spreading Beyond Gaza
The Jerusalem attack is the latest in a disturbing wave of violence that has spilled over from the Gaza war.
Palestinian militants have staged deadly shootings both in Israel and the West Bank, while reports of settler violence against Palestinians are also on the rise.
The last mass shooting of this scale inside Israel occurred in October 2024, when two Palestinians opened fire on a busy boulevard and light rail station in Tel Aviv, killing seven people.
Hamas’ military wing claimed responsibility for that assault.
What Lies Ahead
With tensions at a boiling point, the Jerusalem bus stop massacre underscores how fragile security remains.
As Israel tightens its defenses and international voices push for ceasefire negotiations, both Israelis and Palestinians remain trapped in a cycle of violence with no clear end in sight.
