Groom tragically dies in e-scooter crash in Nottingham just two days before wedding and planned honeymoon to Majorca

It was supposed to be the happiest weekend of his life.

Scott Catton, a devoted father and fiancé, was just 48 hours away from marrying the love of his life.

He had a honeymoon booked, wedding plans ready, and a heart full of excitement.

But everything changed in a matter of seconds.

Tragic E-Scooter Crash in Nottingham

Last Thursday evening in Top Valley, Nottingham, Scott was on his way home, riding an electric scooter—something many use for quick, casual travel.

But in a split second, tragedy struck.

A car door suddenly swung open into his path. Scott had no time to react.

He collided with the door head-on, suffering devastating injuries.

His brother-in-law, Philip Bates, explained that the crash left Scott with broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, and the most serious of all—a severe brain bleed.

Doctors Fought to Save Him

Scott was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where medics did everything they could to keep him alive.

His family stayed by his side all weekend, hoping for a miracle.

Sadly, despite the medical team’s efforts, Scott passed away from his injuries on Saturday.

A Wedding That Turned Into Mourning

Scott and his fiancée, Debi, were supposed to exchange vows at Arnold Registry Office on Monday.

Their honeymoon flight to Majorca was booked for the following day.

Instead, the day that was meant to be their wedding became one of unimaginable grief.

Debi, their 13-year-old son, and Scott’s loved ones were left to mourn a life cut tragically short.

Remembering the Life and Soul of the Party

Philip Bates described Scott as someone who lit up every room.

“He was the life and soul of the party,” Philip said.

“A cheeky chap who loved his sports—football, cricket, boxing—you name it.” Scott played football for local and veterans teams and was a regular at big sporting events.

He’d recently attended the Eubank vs. Benn fight and was a devoted Nottingham Forest supporter.

A Father’s Legacy

Scott was a retired advisor from EON, and though he had some personal finances, his not being married made accessing those funds a slow process.

That’s why his family has turned to the public for support—to help cover funeral costs and, more importantly, to secure something for his 13-year-old son’s future.

Philip launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of £7,500. So far, over £5,700 has already been raised.

The remaining amount, once funeral costs are covered, will go into a trust for Scott’s son.

Community Rallies Around the Family

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming.

The family expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated. “We’re truly humbled and grateful,” they said.

“It just shows how loved Scott was.”

Special thanks were also given to two local pubs, the Park Tavern and the Oxford public house, both of which are stepping in to host fundraising events in Scott’s memory.

Investigation Still Ongoing

As for the crash itself, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed they are still investigating the incident.

East Midlands Ambulance Service provided a brief statement, noting they received the emergency call just after 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.

Two ambulances were dispatched, and Scott was transported to the hospital for urgent care.

A Community’s Grief and a Son’s Future

Scott’s passing has left a void that can’t be filled.

But through the love and support of his family, friends, and wider community, his memory will live on—and so will his legacy, through the son he adored.
