The NSPCA is determined to bring a case against the owner and employees of a crocodile farm in Limpopo, South Africa, who have been accused of hacking the animals with pangas (bush knives).
The NSPCA received reports of severe animal cruelty at the farm in 2021, and their inspectors found the carcasses of juvenile crocodiles that had been viciously hacked with pangas.
They also obtained video footage showing the staff hacking the animals indiscriminately, causing immense suffering.
The staff claimed that they were following the owner’s instructions and that the crocodiles were being destroyed because they were no longer needed for farming.
Animal Cruelty Charges
The NSPCA laid criminal charges of animal cruelty under the Animals Protection Act no 71 of 1962.
The case was due to be heard in the Gravelotte Magistrate Court on 23 March 2023, but it was postponed to 22 June 2023 because one of the accused requested legal representation.
Sentient Beings That Deserve Protection
The NSPCA reminds us that all animals, including crocodiles, are sentient beings that deserve protection from abuse and cruelty.
Just because they are not traditionally viewed in the same manner as other furry companions, it does not mean they are not worth fighting for.
The NSPCA is committed to continuing its important work to ensure that all animals are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
This story highlights the importance of treating all animals with respect and dignity.
The NSPCA’s determination to bring charges against the owner and employees of the crocodile farm in Limpopo shows their unwavering commitment to animal welfare.
