The text of the proclamation: It is clearer now than ever before just how valuable and important the labor force is to our prosperity and the very fabric of our society.
In the last year and a half, we have watched people step up for each other in the face of adversity, uncertainty and fear.
Our state and the nation owe a deep debt to the workers who have sustained us through these unprecedented times and are now driving our remarkable recovery.
On Labor Day, we honor and recognize the vital contributions of the labor movement and the men and women whose work has built our state and nation.
We thank them for all that they do, be it responding to emergencies, caring for those in need, harvesting crops and all the multitude of other critical jobs that support communities and keep our state moving forward.
Throughout the pandemic, front-line workers kept food on shelves and the economy running, despite the significant risk to their own health and that of their families.
In the last few years, my administration has taken many steps to better support and protect workers, and that priority has never wavered.
We invested billions in improving access and support for further or transitional career development for workers.
We supported the labor force in balancing home and work life by expanding and improving child care, health care and housing access.
My administration has advanced $4 billion specifically for small business grants, and millions more for microbusinesses and to help seed business creation.
We incentivized the hiring, retention and safety of workers and developed new initiatives to attract further business and industry investment in California.
And we know our work supporting workers is not finished. Today, we not only celebrate and thank workers, but we promise to keep improving working conditions and opportunities, to fulfill the promises of Labor Day together and build a California for all.
NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim September 6, 2021, as Labor Day.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 6th day of September 2021.»Governor Newsom Declares Labor Day In California«
