South Africa’s Retiefs Goosen has won the Hoag Classic on the PGA Champions Tour – a tour reserved for the legends of golf over the age of 50.

The two-time US Open champion carded a final round eight-under-par 63 for a total 198 – 15-under-par – at the Newport  Beach Country Club in California.

Goosen opened his final round with an eagle and then followed it up with back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes. He made the turn in 30 – five-under-par and then added four more birdies on the back nine, with a lone bogey coming at the 11th.

His birdie at the last ensured a four-stroke victory over South Korea’s K.J Choi who was alone in second place. It was the 53-year-old’s second career victory on the Champions Tour.

Goosen’s countryman, Ernie Els who led after the second round, finished seventh – nine strokes adrift – after a final round of two-over-par 73.
