Goods Worth Millions Destroyed As Fire Guts Ogbe-Ijoh Market In Warri

The market is well-known as one of the country’s largest fish marketplaces.

Residents and store owners were spotted fleeing helter-skelter to save what was left of their respective items, despite the fact that the origin of the fire is still unknown at the time of recording this story.

According to Channels Television, firefighters from the State Fire Service were called in later to put out the roaring fire before it spread to other parts of the market.

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Micheal Tidi, confirmed the incident to Channels Television via a telephone conversation on Sunday.

He said the fire which started at about 2 pm on Sunday, was triggered by a mentally-challenged woman who was clearing refuse at the market premises.

According to the Chairman, the fire spread beyond the dry refuse and then onto other shops in the market after the woman began to cook and walked away briefly.
