George Clooney walks the red carpet despite battling a sinus infection at the Venice Film Festival while promoting his Netflix film Jay Kelly

Even a serious sinus infection couldn’t keep George Clooney from making a grand appearance at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday night.

The Hollywood icon, who has occasionally skipped press events in recent days due to health concerns, walked the red carpet with his usual charm and style to promote his latest Netflix film, Jay Kelly.

Amal Clooney Steals the Spotlight

As always, Amal Clooney turned heads alongside her husband.

The human rights lawyer looked effortlessly glamorous in an off-the-shoulder gown featuring a bold thigh-high detail, paired with silver strappy heels, a gold clutch, and sparkling earrings.

Linking arms with George, she commanded attention while he navigated the carpet with his trademark ease and humor.

Fighting Through a Sinus Infection

George, 64, arrived around 9.35pm local time for the 9.45pm premiere, asking Amal with concern, “Are you OK?” before adding, “OK, let’s go.”

Despite the infection that had forced him to skip a press conference and a dinner with the cast and crew the day before, he appeared in good spirits and spent about 20 minutes signing autographs and chatting with fans.

At times he had to clutch his throat, explaining, “I can’t speak!”

Star-Studded Encounters

On the red carpet, George took time to greet festival director Alberto Barbera and his co-stars, Laura Dern and Adam Sandler.

Both Dern and Sandler acknowledged his absence from the press conference, with Sandler noting, “Movie stars get sick too,” and Dern adding, “George is so devastated that he can’t be here.”

Behind the Scenes of the Film

Jay Kelly sees Clooney playing a Hollywood actor who “always plays himself,” questioning his life choices while being lauded by fans and staff.

Directed by Noah Baumbach, the film follows Jay and his devoted manager Ron, played by Adam Sandler, on a whirlwind journey through Europe where they confront their personal relationships, careers, and legacies.

Venice Festival Routine

George and Amal have been staying at the Cipriani Hotel during the festival and were previously seen leaving the Excelsior Hotel, Netflix’s festival base.

Despite a brief pause due to illness, George managed to honor the premiere, showing that even a sinus infection couldn’t slow down one of Hollywood’s most enduring stars.

A Film About Being Yourself

The trailer hints at Jay Kelly’s internal struggle with authenticity amid fame, as he repeatedly reminds himself, “You know how difficult it is to be yourself? You try it.”

The story blends humor and reflection, offering audiences a glimpse at the personal and professional trials of a celebrated actor navigating the fading appeal of showbiz.
