When you think of veteran journalist Gayle King, images of hard-hitting interviews and trustworthy reporting probably come to mind.
But lately, she’s been showing up in a very different setting—lounging on luxury yachts with Kris Jenner and Oprah Winfrey.
And people are starting to ask: what’s going on with Gayle?
Yacht Days and Designer Robes
Gayle, 70, recently posted a series of glitzy Instagram photos from a European getaway aboard billionaire David Geffen’s massive yacht.
The CBS Mornings host looked completely at ease posing with Oprah and none other than Kris Jenner, 69, the infamous Kardashian matriarch.
In one post, the trio is seen sporting SKIMS (Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line) and robes by Roberto Cavalli.
Gayle gushed in her caption, saying:
“Don’t you love when you admire what someone’s wearing and THEN they give you one? That’s how @krisjenner rolls on vacation!”
She even joked that she and Oprah had signed up to be in the next SKIMS campaign—offering themselves up to Kim Kardashian directly.
Viewers Are Asking: Is This the Same Gayle?
But not everyone was as thrilled as Gayle.
Her followers were quick to comment, with some saying they felt disappointed or even betrayed by her new social circle.
The term “sellout” was thrown around, with people questioning whether the respected anchor was stepping away from her journalistic roots in favor of celebrity clout.
A Strategic Shift or Midlife Pivot?
Celebrity publicist Sarah Schmidt, president of Interdependence PR, weighed in on what might be behind Gayle’s recent shift in company.
In an interview with Daily Mail, she pointed out that Gayle may be thinking about her legacy.
“Gayle came into the spotlight as Oprah’s best friend but spent the last decade building her credibility as a serious journalist,” Schmidt explained.
“Now it seems like she’s leaning back into the access that launched her career.”
According to Schmidt, Gayle could be trading a bit of that journalistic neutrality for “cultural staying power” in a different kind of circle—one ruled by influencers and billionaires, not newsroom editors.
The Company She’s Keeping
Gayle’s friendship with Kris Jenner isn’t exactly new—sources say it dates back nearly two decades—but it’s certainly more visible than ever.
The two were recently seen at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s ultra-exclusive wedding in Venice, alongside Oprah.
Before that, they also crossed paths at the 2024 Met Gala and were both on hand for Bezos’ controversial Blue Origin space launch in Texas.
So, whether it’s the Met, Mallorca, or a mountaintop, Gayle and Kris are increasingly showing up in the same places, and always with an A-list crowd in tow.
Fans Still Wonder Where This Is Going
Gayle has been a familiar face on CBS Mornings since 2012 and currently co-hosts the show with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.
Despite all the speculation, there’s been no official word about her stepping down.
But the buzz suggests she may be preparing to transition into a new chapter—one that doesn’t necessarily revolve around news desks or teleprompters.
With Oprah by her side and Kris Jenner now in the mix, Gayle might just be carving out a hybrid role: a media icon with one foot in serious journalism and the other firmly planted on the sun-soaked decks of Hollywood’s most exclusive yachts.
