The Gauteng traffic police have arrested more than 25 drivers for speeding in the last two weeks, said the provincial department of community safety on Sunday.
The drivers were apprehended on the province’s major routes for negligent and reckless driving and failing to adhere to the maximum speed limit of 120km/h on a freeway.

The Gauteng Traffic Police High Speed Unit arrested the suspects on major freeways, including the N1, N4, R21, M1 and N14.
The worst offender was the driver of a white Porsche who was arrested on the N4 on the way to Mpumalanga. The 47-year-old suspect was clocked travelling at 204km/h.
Sello Maremane, the Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson, said the suspect was arrested and detained at the Bronkhorspruit police station and he is expected to appear in court imminently.
“Excessive speeding is one of the contributory factors to road crashes leading to fatalities. Driver behaviour and attitude on our roads is a major concern to law enforcement authorities which therefore calls for the strengthening of road safety education,” said Maremane on Sunday, 30 January.
In an unrelated matter, the Gauteng Traffic Police arrested a drunk driver on Friday on the R553 Golden Highway.
The suspect, who was involved in an accident that caused serious injuries to other motorists, had a blood alcohol reading of 1,02mg/l. The driver was detained at Eldorado Park police station.
According to the police, your blood may not have more than 0.05% alcohol content in it.
“This means that even after what you may think is a “small drink”, you could be over the limit.
If you have more than 350ml of beer, OR if you have more than a single tot of brandy or other spirits, you may already be over the limit.
Remember that these levels of alcohol will remain in your system for up to EIGHT hours after consumption!”
