When a player shines on the field, it’s always special—but it hits different when the recognition comes from a fellow star.

That’s exactly what happened at Mamelodi Sundowns, where attacker Gaston Sirino didn’t hold back his admiration for a teammate who’s had an outstanding season.

Sirino Picks His Standout Player of the Season

In a recent chat with Soccer Laduma, Gaston Sirino named Lucas Ribeiro as his pick for South Africa’s Player of the Season—and his reasons were pretty convincing.

“Of course, of course. Lucas Ribeiro is a top player and also my friend,” Sirino shared.

“I think he has all the qualities to be player of the season because the numbers are there as well.”

With 13 goals and seven assists to his name, Ribeiro has been more than just consistent—he’s been electric.

Sirino highlighted not just his stats, but also his ability to show up game after game.

“He plays well in every game and Sundowns are also doing well,” Sirino added.

“For me, he is the best player in South Africa now. He deserves to be the player of the season.”

A Huge Final Awaits Mamelodi Sundowns

While individual accolades are great, the team has an even bigger prize in sight.

Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for one of the biggest matches in their recent history—the CAF Champions League final.

Their opponents? None other than Egypt’s Pyramids FC. The battle will be a two-leg affair, with the first clash set to take place in Tshwane on 24 May.

The return leg will be played a week later, on 1 June, in Cairo.
