In a heart-wrenching case that has left the community in shock, a 13-year-old girl, Amandine, was subjected to years of severe abuse by her mother, Sandrine Pissarra. The abuse, which lasted for over a decade, finally ended with Amandine’s death in 2020. Now, prosecutors in Montpellier, France, are pushing for a life sentence for the mother, who admitted to the horrific treatment of her daughter.
A Gruesome History of Violence
Amandine’s death was a result of extreme starvation, physical violence, and neglect.
According to the prosecutor, Amandine had suffered from significant weight and muscle loss, along with septicemia.
Her frail body, weighing just 62 pounds at 5’1″, showed the terrible effects of the abuse she endured.
The young girl had been confined to a windowless room for weeks, with little to no food, and subjected to regular beatings, including brooms, punches, kicks, and hair-pulling.
The medical examiner’s report revealed that Amandine also had severe infections on her face, missing teeth, and her hair had been pulled out.
Mother’s Cold Justification for the Abuse
Sandrine Pissarra, a 54-year-old woman, admitted to the charges in court, referring to herself as a “monstrous mother.”
When asked why she treated Amandine so cruelly, Pissarra responded coldly, “Because she looked like her father.”
The court heard that this brutal pattern of abuse had begun when Amandine was very young.
Prosecutors are now calling for a life sentence for Pissarra, with a minimum of 20 years in prison for her barbaric treatment of her daughter.
Father’s Role in the Tragedy
Amandine’s father, Jean-Michel Cros, also faces charges for his involvement in the abuse.
The 49-year-old, who was in a relationship with Pissarra at the time, is accused of depriving Amandine of the care and food she desperately needed.
Cros has admitted to his role and expressed immense guilt during the trial. Prosecutors are recommending an 18-year sentence for him.

The psychological evaluation of Pissarra showed a deeply disturbed individual.

The investigation revealed that Pissarra’s abuse was systematic, with Amandine being locked in a surveillance camera-monitored room and subjected to continuous punishment.

In the days leading up to Amandine’s death, her mother claimed that the girl had suffered from eating disorders.
However, this claim was never confirmed by medical professionals.
Pissarra explained that on the day of Amandine’s death, she had only consumed a small amount of food before vomiting and eventually passing away.
The mother’s callousness in the face of her daughter’s suffering has shocked many.
