Glasgow shoppers were left stunned when four women brazenly attempted to make off with multiple wedding dresses in broad daylight.
The daring robbery, caught on CCTV, unfolded at Brides In The City on St George’s Road and saw the thieves target gowns worth more than £4,000.
CCTV Captures the Bold Theft
Footage shows the women casually browsing the racks before grabbing several dresses and bolting toward the door without paying.
One of the group was even seen placing her finger to her lips, signaling the others to stay quiet, while the group appeared to laugh as they attempted their heist.
Quick Thinking Stops the Robbery
Fortunately, the attempted theft was foiled thanks to the swift actions of a staff member and a passerby.
The women were chased, and they eventually dropped the dresses — worth £4,000 — before escaping.
The shop expressed gratitude toward the public for helping recover the gowns, although they were unable to identify the helpful bystander.
Suspected Retail Theft Ring
Reports suggest these women may be part of a larger retail theft operation across Scotland, with alleged incidents in Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, Falkirk, and Stranraer.
Staff at Brides In The City shared the CCTV on social media, hoping the public might help identify the suspects.
Staff Speak Out on the Incident
A spokesperson for the store described the women’s behaviour as “appalling,” noting that they smirked when confronted.
They explained: “They were extremely sneaky when they entered the store, and you can actually see one of them ‘shhh’ the others, which shows they definitely all knew what their intentions were.”
Police Launch Investigation
Police Scotland confirmed they have opened an investigation into the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a theft of two wedding dresses from a shop in St George’s Road, Glasgow, around 2.40pm on Monday, September 22, 2025.
The dresses were recovered nearby a short time later and enquiries are ongoing.”
Community Appeal for Information
The shop is collaborating with neighbouring businesses to review additional CCTV footage and has appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the women.
Meanwhile, the city remains on alert as authorities continue to investigate this bold daylight robbery.
