Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu recently shared insights on his career journey, openly discussing the challenges he faced and the biggest regrets from his time with the Soweto giants.

Reflecting on his past, Zungu admits that off-field issues played a significant role in shaping his experience and ultimately impacted his trajectory at the club.

From Stellenbosch FC to the Buccaneers

Zungu’s career took a promising turn when he joined Orlando Pirates after an impressive run with Stellenbosch FC during the 2019/20 season.

The move to the Buccaneers was a dream come true, a reward for his skillful midfield performances.

However, with fierce competition for spots in the Pirates’ lineup, Zungu found it difficult to secure consistent playing time.

A Journey Through Multiple Clubs

After limited opportunities at Pirates, Zungu transferred to Richards Bay FC in 2022, and later to Platinum City Rovers.

His journey eventually led him to Pretoria Callies, competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Despite his talent, disciplinary issues overshadowed his potential and shortened his time at several clubs, including Orlando Pirates, where he struggled with the club’s strict code of conduct.

Zungu’s Reflections on His Exit from Pirates

Reflecting on his exit from Orlando Pirates, Zungu shared, “I regret how I left Pirates because I feel like they were taking care of me. Outside forces, along with my decisions, led them to give up on me.”

He expressed that if he’d had the maturity he possesses now, his time at the club could have turned out differently.

“If I was the person I am now, how I think and see things, I’d be much further,” he added.

Lessons Learned and New Goals

Now focused on growth, Zungu openly acknowledges his past mistakes and emphasizes the importance of the lessons he’s learned.

He has a renewed dedication to making better choices, stating, “I don’t want to go back to where I was.

I’ve left all the bad things behind me, and I’m focused on making my life better and getting back on track with football.”

Fresh Start with Pretoria Callies

Since joining Pretoria Callies, Zungu has shown commitment to his career revival, appearing in six games this season and missing only two.

His goal now is to leave his past behind and fully concentrate on contributing to his new team while making strides towards personal growth and maturity.
