Just weeks after his departure from Arsenal, former midfielder Thomas Partey has found himself at the center of a legal storm, facing multiple charges related to sexual offences.
On Monday morning, the 32-year-old was seen arriving at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to respond to the charges.
Facing Multiple Charges From Three Different Women
The Ghanaian international is charged with five counts of rape involving two women, and one count of sexual assault against a third woman, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The incidents are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.
Protesters Call Out Arsenal Over Handling of the Case
As Partey arrived in court, protesters made their voices heard, holding up signs aimed at Arsenal’s previous handling of the situation.
One sign pointedly read:
“Arsenal said: ‘We do the right thing.’ Then did nothing.”
This public reaction adds another layer to the controversy surrounding how much the club knew and when.
Partey Maintains His Innocence
Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has made it clear that he “denies all the charges” and is eager to clear his name in court.
She also emphasized that Partey has fully cooperated with police and prosecutors throughout the investigation, which has now spanned more than three years.
Given the ongoing nature of the proceedings, Wiltshire added that Partey won’t be making any public statements at this time.
Investigation Began in Early 2022
According to authorities, the investigation into Partey began back in February 2022, after an initial report of rape was filed.
The CPS said the decision to charge him was made only after a careful review of an extensive file of evidence.
Partey’s Arsenal Exit and Career So Far
Partey’s charges came just four days after his Arsenal contract officially ended on June 30.
The midfielder originally joined the Gunners from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a reported £45 million fee.
During his final season with Arsenal, he made 35 Premier League appearances and scored four goals.
The club has remained tight-lipped about the case, citing the ongoing legal process. A spokesperson said:
“Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.”
What Happens Next?
With the legal process now underway, the spotlight is firmly on what unfolds in court.
Partey has expressed through his legal team that he is prepared to face the charges and clear his name.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and the footballing world will be watching closely as the case develops.
More updates are expected to follow as proceedings continue.
