Five children, all 17 and under, lost their lives in a fiery single-car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale on Sunday.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, lost control of the Nissan Rogue just past the exit for Mamaroneck Road in Westchester County around 12:30 a.m. and crashed into a tree, where the SUV burst into flames.
Sole Survivor is a 9-Year-Old Boy Who Was Riding in the Trunk
The 9-year-old boy was the only survivor of the crash. He was riding in the trunk of the vehicle and managed to escape. “He got out the back somehow,” a Westchester Police spokesman said.
The others were unable to escape the flames and died in the vehicle. The driver, three other males, and a female, all aged 8 to 17, lost their lives in the accident.
All Occupants Were from Derby, Connecticut
The occupants of the vehicle were all from the small town of Derby, Connecticut, just outside of New Haven. They were traveling on the parkway when the accident occurred.
The 9-Year-Old Boy is in Stable Condition
The 9-year-old boy who survived the crash was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He was in stable condition, according to reports.
