Firefighters Arrest Ruben Montes in Irwindale for Starting Multiple Fires in Los Angeles County Days After Another Suspected Arsonist Was Caught

Los Angeles County authorities have arrested a second suspect accused of starting fires in the area, just days after a previous arrest involving an illegal immigrant caught with a blowtorch.

This latest individual was apprehended after firefighters witnessed him actively lighting multiple blazes in the region.

Firefighters Act Quickly

The suspect, Ruben Montes, 29, was detained by police on Sunday after being spotted setting fires in Irwindale, a city located around 16 miles from the deadly Eaton Fire in Altadena.

Firefighters, who were already responding to a brush fire in the area, noticed Montes starting new fires nearby and immediately alerted officers. He was swiftly arrested and charged with arson.

Similar Incident Just Days Before

This arrest follows closely on the heels of another troubling incident in which Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, a Mexican national, was arrested for allegedly setting a fire in Calabasas.

In that case, Sierra-Leyva was reportedly caught with a blowtorch, fueling concerns about the growing threat of arson in the region.

Details on the Irwindale Blaze

While the details of Montes’s arrest remain limited, authorities have not yet confirmed whether he was directly responsible for the brush fire in Irwindale or if any of the fires he set caused damage.

Firefighters have been praised for their swift action in containing the situation, with photos showing them cleaning up the area after the fire was put out.

However, it is still unclear whether all the blazes Montes started have been extinguished.

Ongoing Investigation

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine if Montes has any connections to the ongoing fires across Los Angeles County, including the deadly Eaton Fire.

For now, his arrest has brought some relief to local communities, but with arson cases on the rise, officials remain on high alert.
