Firearms, ammo, vehicle keys stolen from KZN RTI offices

Officials from the South African Police Services are searching for four men who stole ammunition, firearms and keys to SAPS vehicles. The incident happened on Sunday evening and the perpetrators are on the run.

A security guard was held up at gunpoint

Eshowe SAPS received a report of the robbery just after 10pm on 6 March. SAPS proceeded to the scene and upon their arrival, they were met by a security guard.

The spokesperson for the SAPS Colonel Thembeka Mbele stated that the four perpetrators allegedly held a security guard at gunpoint. They then tied him up. The security guard revealed that the assailants broke into the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) offices.

According to Col Mbele, the unidentified men stole a total of 11 firearm safes, five firearms, 135 rounds of ammunition and 10 vehicle keys with their petrol cards. The suspects proceeded to flee the scene, reports TimesLIVE.

SAPS are pleading for assistance

The incident occurred in Eshowe, south of KZN, and a case of business robbery has been opened at the Eshowe SAPS. Colonel Mbele stated that the SAPS are appealing to the community to assist them with any information regarding the theft of the firearms, ammunition and vehicle keys.

In related news, police in Limpopo are on the hunt for five suspects who allegedly robbed a post office in Seleteng at gunpoint. South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a post office in Ga-Mphahlele was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by five armed suspects on Thursday afternoon, 3 March.

“The suspects reportedly broke down burglar doors and forced entry into the building and pointed the post office staff with firearms. The suspects allegedly left the scene with two bags of money,” said Netshiunda.
