Nigeria – As a way of giving back to his constituency and enhancing quality education in Lagos State, four fully-equipped ICT Centres have been provided for students in Kosofe area of the State by member, Federal House of Representative, Prince Rotimi Agunsoye.
Speaking at the formal commissioning of the Centres on Tuesday at Maryland, Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, asserted that the gesture was a boost for the State’s education system, stressing that the importance of ICT centres in all schools cannot be overemphasised.
According to the Governor, the newly built facilities will greatly enhance the performance of students and further broaden their horizon, thereby making them I.T compliant like their colleagues across the globe.
He described the lawmaker’s gesture as one of the dividends of effective collaboration between all the tiers of government aimed at bringing an all-round development to the State.
While acknowledging the interventions of all lawmakers in the State in their various constituencies, Governor Sanwo-Olu called for proper use and maintenance of all the equipment donated by the Kosofe lawmaker.
In his address, Prince Rotimi Agunsoye, said the donation of ICT centres was borne out of his passion for education and is his contribution towards the quality improvement of students in his constituency, who will in future improve on the Lagos megacity status.
Agunsoye maintained that the building of ICT centres, which is also in line with the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda and the Y2030 sustainable development goals, will not only help realise the potentials in today’s world of information technology but will also boost the students’ knowledge of ICT, which remains key in the lives of youths.
He said, “We are today giving our students the exposure needed to be at par with their contemporaries. The frontiers of possibilities are being expanded for our youths to realise their full potentials in this digital era”.
Mr. Okanlawon Sanni, Chairman, Lagos State House Committee on Education, remarked that what transpired was nothing but value-added effort, stressing that Agunsoye has been an effective representative of the people in his constituency.
He enjoined the lawmaker to continue doing more for the people of Kosofe, particularly in the area of ICT, to help give a boost to quality education in the area.
On his part, the Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King said the project is in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda and SDG 4, just as he commended the excellent performances of Education District II under the leadership of the TG/PS, Mrs. Anike Adekanye.
