The father of a 10-year-old boy who was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier while playing football outside his home has released CCTV footage of the incident to raise awareness about the danger of out-of-control dogs.

Attack on Young Boy

The attack occurred on the front drive of the family’s home in Bentley Drive, Walsall, around 7.35 pm on a Wednesday. The CCTV footage captured Mohammad Sami Raza being mauled by the dog while he was playing.

Family members rushed out of the house to help the boy, and the dog eventually fled after the two-minute attack. Mohammad’s father, Gohar Siddique, also shared images of his son in the hospital to raise awareness about the incident.

Prime Minister’s Pledge

This incident coincided with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s pledge to outlaw American XL bully dogs by the end of the year following a series of dog attacks in recent days.

Father’s Call for Responsibility

Speaking about the incident, Mr. Siddique emphasized that it should have been prevented if the dog’s owner had taken responsibility.

He urged owners to take responsibility for their dogs and advocated for a ban on any dog that attacks a human being.

Arrest and Dog’s Fate

A woman in her 60s was arrested following the attack, and West Midlands Police confirmed that she received a caution. The dog involved is set to be destroyed.

Related Incidents

This incident followed other recent dog attacks in the area. An 11-year-old girl was seriously injured by an American XL bully in Birmingham, and a man was fatally attacked by two dogs, believed to be XL bullies, in Staffordshire.

Government Response

These incidents led Prime Minister Sunak to promise a ban on the breed once it is defined. Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog that killed his own brother in Derby in April and is awaiting sentencing.

Police Statement

West Midlands Police provided details of the incident, including the boy’s injuries, the seizure of the dog, and the arrest of the woman in her sixties.

The dog was believed to have escaped from its owner’s property without the owner’s knowledge.
