Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has shared his thoughts on how the club can address its ongoing challenges.
During a recent appearance on the Soccer Beat Podcast, Khan discussed the need for a key addition to the technical team to help guide the team back to its former glory.
The Bigger Issue at Kaizer Chiefs
According to Khan, Kaizer Chiefs’ issues go beyond just the coaching staff.
While the head coach is certainly important, Khan believes the club’s problems lie in a deeper structural issue. “It’s not just about coaching.
The team needs someone who can evaluate players properly and ensure they fit into the club’s overall philosophy and playing style,” he explained.
In Khan’s view, a “technical genius” is needed to address these gaps and bring in players who can thrive under the club’s game model.
The Role of a ‘Technical Genius’
A ‘technical genius,’ as Khan puts it, is someone who has the ability to sign players that align with the vision and game style of the team.
This person would play a vital role in reducing the constant player changes seen at Kaizer Chiefs over the years. “Once that person is in place, the coach’s job becomes easier.
The lineup won’t need to change as often, which has been a recurring issue,” Khan added.
Looking Back at Chiefs’ Past Decisions
This is not the first time the club has considered bringing in a technical advisor.
The last time Chiefs appointed such a role was in 2018, when Rob Hutting was brought on to work alongside then-coach Steve Komphela.
However, Hutting’s tenure ended shortly after Komphela’s departure, and the role was left vacant ever since.
Will Kaizer Chiefs Act on Khan’s Suggestion?
Khan’s suggestion presents an interesting possibility for the future of Kaizer Chiefs.
With the team having gone through numerous changes in both its playing personnel and coaching staff, it remains to be seen whether the club will heed Khan’s advice and bring in a technical genius for the upcoming season.
