Family Accuses DSS of Blocking Nnamdi Kanu’s Visitors, Violating Court Order

DSS Under Scrutiny for Denying Visitor Access to Nnamdi Kanu

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has once again accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of obstructing access to him, preventing visitors from checking on his current health condition.

This accusation comes despite a court order that mandated the DSS to allow Kanu regular visits from family and legal representatives.

Flagrant Violation of Court Order

According to Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, none of the individuals who attempted to visit him on Thursday was permitted access.

This denial of access is viewed as a flagrant violation of the court order that specified regular visitation rights for Kanu.

Emmanuel Kanu expressed concern about the DSS’s sudden decision to restrict access, implying an attempt to conceal information about Nnamdi Kanu’s deteriorating health.

Family Suspicions and Allegations

Emmanuel Kanu raised suspicions about the DSS’s motives, suggesting that the secret police might have something to hide by preventing visitors from seeing the IPOB leader.

The family perceives the DSS’s actions as an attempt to maintain secrecy regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s health condition and questioned why he is still in detention despite court orders for his release.

Protracted Detention Despite Court Orders

Nnamdi Kanu has been held in solitary confinement at the DSS headquarters in Abuja since his abduction in Kenya and subsequent transfer to Nigeria in June 2021

. Despite a court order from the Appeal Court in Abuja for his immediate and unconditional release, the Federal Government has yet to comply. The Appeal Court also dismissed all 15 counts of treason charges against Kanu.
