The Evening Standard Art Prize is back for its fourth year, offering the winner a cash prize of £5,000 and a bespoke fragrance by Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle.
The competition, which was first launched in 2017, gives emerging artists a chance to have their work seen by an impressive judging panel and prominent figures in the industry.
This year’s theme is “A Portrait of You” and submissions can be made in various mediums, including sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, and wood carving.
The top 12 shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Cromwell Place in London.
Theme for 2023 and eligibility
The competition’s theme for this year is focused on self-expression and the individuality and personality that artists can express through their medium.
Entrants can submit a single work or a series of works, but the submission must be their original creation and can be of any size as long as it can fit through a standard door frame (1981cm x 762cm).
Submissions must include three to five images of the work from different angles and distances, along with a 150-200 word description of the artist and their creation.
The competition is open to all artists, except those who have had solo exhibitions in public institutions.
Judges and prizes
The submissions will be judged by an expert panel, which includes the Evening Standard’s Culture Editor, Nancy Durrant, artist Aowen Jin, and other industry figures yet to be announced.
The top 12 shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Cromwell Place in London, where the judges will decide on the winner.
The announcement will be made during a special event.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of £5,000 and a bespoke fragrance by Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle.

The competition is open to UK residents who are 18 years old and above.
The submission deadline is June 15, 2023.
Only original pieces of art are allowed, and the artwork cannot exceed 1981cm x 762cm.
