For quite some time, there has been increasing speculation about Eric Mathoho’s future at Kaizer Chiefs.


The player recently experienced another frustrating injury setback, effectively ending his disappointing final season at Naturena prematurely.

Online publication Unplayable has confirmed that Mathoho, at 33 years old, will not be a part of the Glamour Boys’ squad in the upcoming season.

According to a recent article by FARPost, it seems that Mathoho had always anticipated the conclusion of his 11-year tenure at Kaizer Chiefs.

The defender, who joined the club from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012, had been aware that he would not continue at the club next season, as communicated to him.

Mathoho is not expected to make a comeback before the end of Chiefs’ current season.


The experienced defender recently reflected on the unusual circumstances surrounding his latest injury.

During a friendly match with the DDC, he sprinted and attempted a tackle, resulting in an unfortunate landing that caused pain in his leg.

Uncertain about the nature of the injury, Mathoho underwent a scan which revealed an issue in his groin area, causing further frustration.
