Enugu State Government launches digital animation training program to empower over 400 Nigerian youths with creative tech skills

Imagine turning your passion for drawing or digital storytelling into a career that could land you at Netflix or Disney.

That’s exactly the kind of future the Enugu State Government is helping to shape through its newly launched Batch 2 of the Enugu Magic Labs Animation Training (EMAT) program — and they’re making it easier than ever for young Nigerians to get in.

Bridging Talent with Opportunity

The EMAT program is a collaboration between the Enugu SME Center, Magic City Labs, and Magic Lab Academy.

Over the next six months, more than 400 young Nigerians will receive expert training in 2D illustration and 3D motion design — two of the most sought-after skills in the digital creative industry.

“Animation is the future, and Enugu is ready to lead, not follow,” a representative from the SME Center shared.

“We’ve seen our first batch of trainees grow in creativity and discipline, and we’re thrilled to open the doors for a new group.”

Aiming for Global Relevance

With the global animation industry valued at over $394 billion, this initiative is more than just a local training course — it’s a launchpad to join the global creative economy.

Through up to 80% tuition subsidies, the state government is making sure cost won’t be a barrier for anyone with talent and drive.

And this isn’t just theory in a classroom. Magic Lab Academy already has more than 500 alumni working with industry giants like Disney, Netflix, and leading African media houses.

“It’s Not Just a Class, It’s a Career Pipeline”

Magic Lab Academy takes a hands-on, industry-first approach to learning.

One academy official put it simply:
“This program doesn’t just teach animation. It gives young Africans the skills, connections, and confidence to break into the tech-creative world.”

EMAT is set up as a career accelerator, not just a short-term course.

Participants won’t just learn — they’ll build a real portfolio that could open the door to remote job opportunities and professional gigs across the animation sector.
