#endSars: Police To Pay N50Million To Family Of Police Brutality Victim

Port Harcourt high court has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to pay the sum of fifty million naira to the family of late Daniel Chibuike Ikeaguchi popularly known as Sleek. This is as a compensation for the act of police brutality that took the victim’s life.

The court order was against the Nigeria Police, inspector general of police, state commissioner of police and 2 police officers who were involved in the murder of Sleek.

On the 19th of September, 2020, operative of Anti Kidnapping Unit killed Sleek in Port Harcourt. The case later became a fundamental human rights violation suit against the police force.

The court, led by Justice S.C Amadi awarded the amount of N50 million against the original N1 billion asked by the victims family.

The victim’s family lawyer, Noble Njoku described the judgment as justice well deserved.

The parents of the victim said the judgment will heal their wound to a certain level even though their son can never return to them.
