Emmy Awards panel disappoints fans as Selena Gomez misses out on comedy actress nomination for Only Murders in the Building

Every awards season brings its fair share of surprises, but this year’s Emmy nominations have left fans scratching their heads more than usual.

While some stars received well-earned nods, it’s the snubs — and there were plenty — that are making the loudest noise.

Let’s dive into who didn’t make the cut and why people are talking about it.

Selena Gomez Snubbed Again

For fans of Only Murders in the Building, this year’s Emmy list brought a familiar sting.

Despite the show’s continued popularity and a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, Selena Gomez was left out of the Lead Actress category — again.

This one hits hard, especially since Gomez finally got nominated last year for her role as Mabel.

Her co-star Martin Short made the cut this time, but Steve Martin, who was nominated in 2024, didn’t make the list either.

And what about Meryl Streep? Her much-hyped role in Season 3, which also sparked rumors of an off-screen romance with Short, didn’t earn her a nod either — despite all the buzz.

The two are set to portray a married couple in the next season, so maybe there’s hope for next time?

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren Left Out

You’d think that with their heavyweight status, 1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren would be Emmy shoo-ins.

But once again, the Yellowstone universe — despite being a major fan favorite — got little love from Emmy voters.

The show’s gritty, Western drama and solid performances weren’t enough to sway the awards crowd, echoing the lack of recognition past Yellowstone projects have received.

Renée Zellweger’s Bridget Comeback Ignored

Renée Zellweger’s return as Bridget Jones in Mad About the Boy won over critics in most countries.

But since it went straight to streaming on Peacock in the U.S., it was eligible for Emmy consideration — and still didn’t land her a nomination.

That’s a surprising miss for a performance many saw as a return to form.

Hacks Cast Fails to Score Despite Success

HBO’s Hacks has usually been an Emmy darling, but this year, a few familiar faces were overlooked.

Megan Stalter, who had fans rolling with laughter, missed out on a Supporting Actress nod.

The show’s co-creator, Paul W. Downs, who also appears on screen, was also left out.

That’s a tough pill to swallow for a show that’s long been considered a comedy standout.

Natasha Lyonne Left Off for Poker Face

Natasha Lyonne’s turn in Poker Face — a quirky mystery series created by Knives Out director Rian Johnson — earned plenty of praise.

Her character’s uncanny ability to sniff out lies made for must-see TV, yet Emmy voters left her out entirely.

The Columbo-inspired series has built a loyal following, but clearly, that wasn’t enough to earn a spot this year.

Patrick Schwarzenegger Misses Out on White Lotus Praise

The White Lotus walked away with a strong slate of nominations, but noticeably absent was Patrick Schwarzenegger.

His dark and controversial storyline involving incest had social media buzzing.

Still, he didn’t make the final cut, even while several of his castmates did.

The Pitt Fails to Get Full Ensemble Recognition

HBO Max’s The Pitt, hailed as the best medical drama since ER, brought powerful storytelling and emotional depth.

Critics have raved about its cast, especially Noah Wylie and Katherine LaNasa — both of whom did receive nominations.

But shockingly, the rest of the ensemble was completely overlooked.

Elisabeth Moss Excluded for Handmaid’s Farewell

After years of nominations and a win for her chilling portrayal in The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth Moss was nowhere to be found on the 2025 list.

That’s despite Season 6 delivering one of the show’s most emotionally resonant finales.

Given her Emmy history, this one is particularly unexpected.

House of the Dragon and Squid Game Shut Out

And finally, some of the biggest international hits — House of the Dragon and Squid Game — didn’t get much Emmy love either.

Both shows made waves in past seasons and had strong fan support, yet neither received Outstanding Series nominations this year.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Emmy nominations may have delivered some expected wins, but for many fans, it’s the snubs that are dominating the conversation.

Whether it’s long-time favorites like Selena Gomez or surprise critical darlings like The Pitt, the omissions suggest that even the most celebrated performances aren’t guaranteed a spot.

Let’s hope next year’s list tells a different story.
