Even wizards aren’t immune to speed cameras — just ask Emma Watson.
The beloved Harry Potter star, now 35, has found herself on the wrong side of the road rules after getting caught speeding in Oxford.
According to official records, Emma was clocked at 38mph in a 30mph zone, which might not sound dramatic, but it’s enough to land her with up to six penalty points on her licence and a possible fine of up to £1,000.
Speeding in a Stylish Ride
At the time of the incident, Emma was behind the wheel of a £30,000 Audi S3, a sporty number that clearly packs more punch than your average muggle ride.
The violation happened on a restricted road in Oxford — the very city where she’s reportedly been hitting the books as a doctoral student at Oxford University.
She’s now due to receive her sentence at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court next Wednesday.
Not Her First Car Drama
Unfortunately for Emma, this isn’t the first time she’s had a car-related mishap.
Back in February 2024, she ended up having her car impounded by police after what was supposed to be a casual night out at the Rose and Crown pub in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Apparently, she missed a ‘no parking’ sign and left her Audi parked in front of a car park entrance — blocking in a poor pizza restaurant manager who had just wrapped up a 12-hour shift.
After searching nearby venues for the owner and getting nowhere, he finally called the police. As the Audi was being towed away, Emma came rushing out of the pub, where she’d been enjoying the evening with her mum.
Despite her best efforts, the car was taken, and she was left with a £192 fine.
From Hollywood to Academia
Of course, Emma’s life has evolved quite a bit since her Harry Potter days.
After starring in all eight films as the brilliant Hermione Granger and appearing in hits like Little Women, she decided to step back from acting in recent years.
These days, she’s been focused on academic life at Oxford, where she’s not only studying but also serving as coxswain for the New College women’s third rowing team.
It’s a quiet, reflective chapter in her life — or at least it was, until this driving drama popped up.
Romance and Rowing on Campus
In addition to her studies and sports, Emma is also reportedly dating fellow student Kieran Brown, who recently completed his own doctorate at the university.
The two were seen sharing a kiss at Gail’s Bakery in Oxford last year — a sweet little snapshot of her low-key campus life.
Ongoing Tensions With JK Rowling
While she’s been keeping things relatively private, Emma hasn’t been silent on issues that matter to her.
She’s been publicly vocal in her support for trans rights, a stance that’s placed her at odds with Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who has faced backlash for her views on gender identity.
Emma previously took to X (formerly Twitter) to make her position clear, writing:
“Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”
A Different Kind of Spotlight
It’s a far cry from red carpets and Hollywood premieres, but Emma Watson’s current chapter at Oxford has kept her name in the headlines in very different ways — from romance and rowing to run-ins with traffic laws.
Whether she’s debating academic theories or dodging parking signs, one thing’s certain: Emma Watson’s life after Hogwarts is anything but dull.
