Emirates is raising the bar for air travel in Africa by introducing its newly retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft on flights to South Africa.
Passengers flying to the continent now have the chance to experience the airline’s latest cabin innovations and comfort enhancements.
With the rollout beginning in September, South Africa becomes the first African country to benefit from these advanced upgrades, marking a significant milestone in Emirates’ global modernization plan.
Premium Economy Makes Its Debut
One of the standout features of the upgraded aircraft is the introduction of Premium Economy on major South African routes.
Travelers can now enjoy larger reclining seats, adjustable footrests, power outlets, and 13.3-inch entertainment screens for a more relaxed and connected journey.
Business Class has also received a major upgrade, now featuring a 1-2-1 layout that provides direct aisle access from every seat and enhanced privacy for passengers seeking a quieter experience.
Economy Class hasn’t been left behind, with a lighter, more comfortable design aimed at improving long-haul travel comfort.
A Fresh and Modern Cabin Aesthetic
The new interiors embrace Emirates’ signature aesthetic, combining a modern color palette with Ghaf Tree-inspired motifs and elegant wood finishes throughout the cabin.
This creates a sophisticated and visually pleasing environment across all classes, reflecting the airline’s commitment to premium travel experiences.
Routes and Deployment
The newly upgraded Boeing 777s are being deployed on the following South African routes:

Johannesburg: EK 765/766 from 1 September; EK 761/762 from 25 September

Cape Town: EK 770/771 daily from 20 September
Passengers on these routes are now among the first in Africa to experience the refreshed cabins and new travel amenities.
Emirates’ Global Retrofit Program
This rollout is part of Emirates’ multi-billion-dollar global retrofit program, which includes upgrades across both its Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 fleets.
Hundreds of aircraft worldwide are scheduled to receive similar enhancements, ensuring passengers experience the latest in comfort, technology, and design wherever they fly with Emirates.
