Elon Musk, never one to hold back on hot-button issues, is making headlines again—this time for wading into a racially charged debate about white South Africans.
The billionaire, who was born in Pretoria, South Africa, has taken to his platform on X (formerly Twitter) to address claims that white people don’t belong in South Africa—or on the African continent at all.
This isn’t the first time Musk has voiced strong opinions about race relations in his home country.
But his latest remarks are reigniting intense conversations both online and off.
Musk Backs Commentary on White South Africans Being Told to “Go Home”
The controversy kicked off when Musk responded to a video clip shared by U.S. political commentator Matt Walsh.
In the clip, Walsh criticizes a growing narrative that paints white South Africans as outsiders—even after centuries of living in the country.
Walsh says, “White South Africans are not considered South African, even after 400 years.
White people are seen as colonizers with no real claim to the land.”
He adds that this belief leads to the unsettling idea that white people have no true home anywhere in the world.
Musk responded bluntly to Walsh’s remarks, posting: “Well said. Enough of this sh*t.”
Musk Slams South African Laws as Racist and Calls for Change
Not stopping there, Musk doubled down by accusing South Africa of maintaining what he believes are racially discriminatory laws.
According to him, the country has around 140 legal provisions that he claims are “explicitly racist” toward non-black citizens.
He called the situation “a terrible disgrace to the legacy of the great Nelson Mandela” and issued a strong call to action: “End racism in South Africa now!”
His comments didn’t stop at the laws. In another post, Musk made a bold and controversial statement: “Anti-white is the new Apartheid.”
Is Musk Highlighting a Real Issue or Spreading Misinformation?
Musk’s posts have sparked intense reactions across social media, with some applauding him for speaking up, while others accuse him of spreading misinformation or stoking racial tensions.
South Africa’s complex racial history and ongoing efforts to address inequality make this a particularly sensitive subject.
Critics argue that Musk’s sweeping claims overlook the context and intention behind the country’s affirmative action policies, which aim to reverse decades of systemic discrimination.
What Do You Think About Musk’s Claims?
Whether you agree with him or not, Elon Musk has once again placed himself at the center of a global debate.
The question is—does his influence help shine a light on overlooked issues, or does it risk inflaming old wounds?
Let us know your thoughts. Are Musk’s comments justified, or is he overstepping with his claims about racial policies in South Africa?
