Ellen DeGeneres enjoys a sunny stroll with her wife Portia de Rossi through the historic streets of Florence after relocating to the Cotswolds in England

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi were all smiles this week as they wandered through the charming streets of Florence.

The couple, together for over 20 years, seemed to leave all worries behind as they strolled arm-in-arm toward the iconic Ponte Vecchio.

Ellen, 67, sported a crisp white half-sleeve shirt and matching trousers, while Portia, 52, looked elegant in a little black dress.

Their affectionate display highlighted the warmth and ease of a couple who have clearly settled into a happy chapter of life.

A New Life in the English Countryside

The pair relocated to England last year, choosing the peaceful Cotswolds over their previous home in Montecito, California.

Their move followed the 2016 US presidential election, when Donald Trump took office, and came after Ellen stepped away from her daytime talk-show in 2022 amid serious allegations of a toxic work environment.

For years prior, Ellen and Portia had maintained a relatively private existence in Montecito, a celebrity enclave that has also been home to Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.

Legal Troubles Shadow Their Vacation

Despite the idyllic Florence getaway, Ellen’s life isn’t entirely free of drama.

Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that she is facing a negligence lawsuit stemming from a December 2023 car accident in Santa Barbara County.

The plaintiff alleges that Ellen t-boned her Tesla after running a stop sign.

According to the suit, the woman had come to a complete stop at the intersection, checked for oncoming traffic, and proceeded, only for Ellen’s vehicle to collide with the side of hers.

The woman is seeking unspecified damages for her alleged injuries. Ellen’s representatives have yet to comment.

Stepping Back From the Spotlight

Following the end of her talk-show, Ellen largely retreated from public life.

The show concluded amidst a swirl of controversy over alleged mistreatment of staff, and Ellen and Portia focused on privacy, stepping back from the Hollywood limelight.

Their reclusive period, however, hasn’t kept Ellen from reconnecting with fans in recent years.

A Comeback With Comedy

Last year, Ellen launched a tour called Ellen’s Last Stand…Up, which was recorded as the Netflix special For Your Approval.

During her tour, she addressed the controversies that had overshadowed her career, candidly reflecting on her public persona.

She told Rolling Stone that she had been “kicked out of show business” for being perceived as mean.

“The hate went on for a long time, and I would try to avoid looking at the news.

The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline,” she recalled.

Learning the Ropes of Show Business

Ellen also admitted that she never truly knew how to be a boss, joking that she learned the ropes of performing at “Charlie’s Chuckle Hut,” not in business school.

“The show was called Ellen and everybody was wearing T-shirts that said ‘Ellen’… but I don’t know that that meant I should be in charge,” she said.

She reflected on the absurdity of her public image with her signature humor: “Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying: ‘Go f*** yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”

Life Today in Central London

Now, settled in central London, Ellen and Portia seem to have found peace.

The couple enjoys a quieter life with their beloved cockapoo and appear to be thriving away from the pressures of Hollywood and American celebrity culture.
